The word "salary" comes from salt

Roman soldiers were sometimes paid in salt, which was incredibly valuable in the ancient world. The Latin word "salarium" (from "sal" meaning salt) is the origin of our modern word "salary." Salt was so precious it was used as currency.

The Pomodoro Technique was named after a tomato

Francesco Cirillo developed this time management method in the late 1980s using a tomato-shaped kitchen timer (pomodoro is Italian for tomato). The technique: 25 minutes of focused work, then a 5-minute break. Simple but remarkably effective.

Random Facts

Bananas are technically berries, strawberries are not

Botanically, a berry is a fruit that develops from a single flower with one ovary. Bananas, kiwis, and even avocados qualify. Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries do not — they're "aggregate fruits." Language is delightfully imprecise.
